LABORATORY OF CANCER BIOLOGY
Research line
The Laboratory of Cancer Biology is engaged in research that aims to elucidate the function of specific cellular proteins (including heme oxygenase-1, the vitamin D receptor, the transcriptional co-factor p300 and Rho-GTPases) in the development, progression and potential regression of various types of cancer. The laboratory is also conducting studies to investigate the mechanisms of action through the utilization of specific inhibitors that have the potential to serve as therapeutic agents. Preclinical trials are conducted on the anti-tumour effects of natural compounds, such as purified extracts from fungi and native plants, as well as chemically synthesized compounds, such as new vitamin D analogues. Tissue samples from the human tumour bank, cell lines in culture and animal models of cancer are used for these studies.
