KCNQ channels are ion channels that mediate potassium conduction. They are involved in the modulation of electrical potentials in cardiac and nerve cells and in their transport across cell membranes. Mutations in these genes cause various diseases such as cardiac arrhythmias, epilepsy and slowly progressive deafness. In our laboratory, we carry out structural and functional studies of these channels in different devices and systems.

Research lines:

Functionality of ion channels and receptors in the nervous and cardiac systems. The role of ion channels in the functionality of the auditory system is analysed using genetically modified mice, while cardiac function is analysed using samples from patients with arrhythmias.

Characterization of a magnetic nanoparticle platform as a treatment for hearing loss. The aim is to implement an otoprotective drug delivery route using magnetic nanoparticles loaded with different drugs that modulate ion channels and intracellular pathways.
